About GTAP: GTAP Scientific Council
GTAP Scientific Council
Since its inception, the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) has grown in size and significance, and the range of topics has expanded well-beyond the initial domain of applications. While the GTAP Advisory Board covers considerable breadth and advises the Center for Global Trade Analysis on matters of policy, research, and funding, it was designed to reflect the interests of GTAP Consortium member agencies, and does not necessarily represent a comprehensive range of viewpoints and specialties in the social, life science, and environmental fields.
The GTAP Scientific Council was established in 2024, with the first meeting held in 2025 to discuss potential new directions for global economic analysis and the scope for meaningful scientific contributions by the GTAP research community. A council of 8 members, plus a representative from the Center for Global Trade Analysis, representing the areas of biodiversity and land use, climate science, international trade and economic development, nutrition, and earth systems science, etc., are appointed by the Center for Global Trade Analysis, and serve two-year appointments, with the option of renewal for up to three terms. Recruiting input from a broader range of specialists in these fields will allow the Center for Global Trade Analysis and GTAP Advisory Board to remain abreast of new issues and challenges and chart new paths forward for the Global Trade Analysis Project.
The council meets online annually in February to discuss potential future research directions for GTAP, with the council’s designated secretary and chair submitting a meeting report to the Center for Global Trade Analysis for inclusion in that year’s GTAP Advisory Board Meeting for review and consideration.
