"WTO and Free Trade Area in Asia"
by Kawasaki, Kenichi

Abstract
Activities and measures aimed at bilateral and/or regional trade agreements have accelerated worldwide in recent years, especially in Asia, as have WTO-led global trade negotiations. This study attempts a quantitative analysis on the impact of trade liberalization, and carries out simulations with a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model of global trade. Economy-wide impacts of several alternative scenarios--a) bilateral FTA between Japan and other economies, b) regional trade liberalization in Asia, especially between Japan, China and ASEAN, and c) global trade liberalization are presented and compared.
