Biography
Dr. Abro is an Impact Assessment Economist at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), based in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a member of icipe’s Insects for Food, Feed and Other Uses (INSEFF) Programme. Dr. Abro’s research interests are impact assessment of emerging innovations and policy options for sustainable agricultural development. Dr. Abro uses econometric methods for observational data, randomized controlled trials, and partial and economy-wide modeling approaches to estimate quantities of policy interest. Dr. Abro actively engages in capacity building for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, extension workers, and farmers. Before joining icipe, Dr. Abro was a Junior Research Fellow at the World Bank. He has worked for the Policy Studies Institute (former EDRI) as a Research Analyst. He has also worked as a Development Cooperation Expert at the Ministry of Water Resources of Ethiopia. Dr. Abro holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and Rural Development from the University of Goettingen, Germany, an MA in Development Studies, and a BA in Economics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
