GTAP Data Bases: GTAP Africa 3 Data Base
What is the GTAP Africa 3 Data BaseThe following virtual seminar introduces the GTAP Africa 3 Data Base: GTAP-UNECA Virtual Seminar Series, Vol 5, No 2 (2024)
African policymakers are increasingly seeking quantitative assessments of trade agreements, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and a potential African Continental Customs Union (ACCU), as well as evaluations of the effects of external shocks, including changes in international food and fuel prices. However, these efforts have long been constrained by limited data availability. International databases, including GTAP, often provide limited coverage of individual African countries.
In this version, the Center for Global Trade Analysis has been collaborating with experts from African National Statistical Offices supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The GTAP Africa 3 Data Base includes data for 51 regions (43 African regions plus 8 other aggregated regions) and the 65 sectors of the GTAP 11 Data Base, for the year 2017. New and updated I-O tables have been contributed by experts from African National Statistical Offices supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The GTAP Africa 3 Data Base is packaged with the GTAPAgg aggregation software which is freely available.
