"FAO-MOSAICC: the FAO Modelling System for Agricultural Impacts of Climate Change to support decision-making in adaptation"
by Kuik, Onno, Frederic Reynes, Francois Delobel and Michele Bernardi

Abstract
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed in partnership with European research institutes an integrated package of models to carry out climate change impact assessment studies at the national level. This package, called FAO-MOSAICC (for Modelling System for Agricultural Impacts of Climate Change), allows for climate data downscaling, spatial interpolation, hydrological modelling, and crop and economic simulations, to be carried out sequentially. FAO-MOSAICC is designed to be distributed to national institutions in developing countries. While FAO-MOSAICC can be used for a wide range of analyses (climate change impacts on water resources, crop yields etc.), its ultimate objective is to identify the most robust adaptation strategies to mitigate the potentially adverse effects of climate change on national food security. This paper describes the modelling system with a focus on the Dynamic Computable General Equilibrium (DCGE) model that simulates the effects of climate-change-induced changes in crop yields on national economies over time. To make the use of the model as cheap as possible for use by national institutions, it uses an open source programming language and free software to solve the model. The model can be implemented and solved on Windows and Linux platforms. Some features of the model will be illustrated by a test of the model on Moroccan data with projections over the period 2001-2030.
