"GTAP 8 Data Base Documentation - Chapter 7.R: Israel" by Siddig, Khalid, Dorothee Flaig, Jonas Luckmann and Harald Grethe Abstract This chapter documents the Israeli Input-Output Table (IOT) in the format of the GTAP Data Base as a new country table contributed to the GTAP 8 Data Base. We describe the entire process of the IOT development, beginning with a brief historical overview about the development of similar databases for Israel, followed by a description of the data sources used to develop a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for Israel as a transitional step to developing the IOT. The third part of the chapter describes the construction process of the SAM focusing on sectoral disaggregation and mapping among the different classifications of data sources. The description of the SAM construction is precise as this topic is comprehensively covered in a separate document (Siddig et al., 2011). The final part of the chapter describes the procedure followed to move the industry-by-commodity SAM into a commodity-by-commodity IOT in the standard format of the GTAP Data Base. We also describe the inconsistencies encountered in the preliminary IOT, particularly with regard to negative payments to capital by three sectors of the SAM as well as the procedures applied to tackle them. Finally, in the annex we provide supplementary tables showing concordance between the original sectors of data sources, the SAM, the IOT, and the standard GTAP 57 sectors. |
