"Overview of joint ATPC-IDEP-IFPRI online course on economic modeling"
by Bouët, Antoine and Samuel Maxime Coly

Abstract
This communication focuses on two presentations:
1) The first presents an overview of the online course on economic modelling jointly organized by ATPC, IDEP and IFPRI.
In February 2019, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) launched a project to design, administer and facilitate two online courses on economic modelling (partial and general equilibrium) focusing on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFA). The project will be led by the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), with the support of the African Centre for Trade Policy (CAPC) and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)

2) the second presents a research project with methodologies, a large part of which will come from the applications carried out during this course.
In a context, on the one hand, of the implementation of an African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) which, according to the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will reach an African market of 1.2 billion people, representing a gross domestic product (GDP) of $2.5 trillion in the 55 member states of the African Union, and on the other hand, with a growing population in Africa that will number 2.5 billion by 2050, or 26% of the world's working-age population, one of the major concerns revolves around the job creation potential of such a free trade agreement.
Given the heterogeneity of the economies concerned, it is clear that knowledge of the transmission channels of the impact of the implementation of the AfCFTA on the labour market for all countries remains limited.
The objective of this research project is to assess, in the case of Senegal, the impact of the implementation of the AfCFTA on the demand for labour, particularly for young workers.
