"The effect of different model specifications on model outputs: The case of the CGE model "DART-BIO"" by Schmidt, Alena, Alvaro Calzadilla, Gernot Klepper, Tobias Heimann and Ruth Delzeit Abstract Model outputs of different models such as computable general equilibrium (CGE) models differ between several models. Studies on plausible futures for agricultural production and food security came to deviating results even with matching assumptions on macroeconomic parameter choices and external drivers. Concluding this research, we regarded structural aspects of the modelling approaches in one computable general equilibrium (CGE) model which allows us to point out the effects of different model specifications. We show that not only the choice of sensitive parameters and model structures but also the effect of differences in reference runs need to be considered. When addressing price changes due to a policy shock, differences in land-use modelling, and choices of critical parameters are the main drivers of variations in price. Further up in the production chain, diverging results are mainly driven by the representation of by-products. Our results call for transparency on model assumptions and model limitations and careful consideration of model-based policy recommendations. Only with this information, the applicability of certain modelling approaches for a particular policy question can be appropriately assessed. |
