"Chapter 8AU: South Africa" by van Seventer, Dirk and Rob Davies Abstract The World Bank (WB) has identified a crucial need to understand the impact of South Africa’s trade and industrial policies. The Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) data base and modelling framework allows for many policy relevant economy-wide analyses to be conducted in a global and national context. In order to improve the analysis for this purpose, the South African data in the V10/11 GTAP data base needs to be updated from its current 2008 base year. This report describes how 2017 South African data was prepared for inclusion in the V10/11 GTAP data base. The discussion starts with the high level broad approach adopted, followed by a discussion of ad-hoc adjustments to accommodate specific GTAP industry/product classifications. |
