"Chapter 1: Introduction" by Aguiar, Angel and Thomas Hertel Abstract The goal of this chapter is to introduce readers to the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) and provide a bit of history on the data base and software which accompany this documentation. Those readers who are already familiar with GTAP may wish to briefly scan Section 1.2 to get a feel for new developments in the GTAP 12 Data Base, before moving on to Chapter 2. However, people who are not familiar with GTAP will likely find that this material provides a useful lens through which to view the GTAP 12 Data Base and associated software. By reading about the historical of this unique database, one acquires not only an appreciation of how far we have come, but also a sense of what might be possible in the future. |
