"A SACU-India Free Trade Agreement and Its Economic Impacts: A Computable General Equilibrium Approach" Authors: Sibiya, Phelelani, Antti Simola, Bhekani Zondo, Nokuthula Khulu, Solly Molepo, Moses Lubinga and Heinrich Bohlmann Abstract The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and India have engaged in protracted negotiations toward a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), with the long-term objective of establishing a comprehensive Free Trade Area (FTA). Despite significant growth in bilateral trade over the past two decades, empirical evidence on the potential economy-wide impacts of such an agreement remains limited and largely outdated. This study employs a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) approach using the standard GTAP model to evaluate the economic effects of a potential SACU-India FTA. |
