Research Fellows
The Board approved to name the following as Research Fellows for 2018-2021: Michael Jerie For playing a pivotal role in keeping GEMPACK running smoothly on ever-evolving hardware, thus providing a vital service by facilitating others' (and his own) research, in additional to developing and offering GEMPACK training courses, to thousands of GTAP modelers. Lionel Fontagné For sustained contributions to the GTAP Network which have emphasized the measurement of border protection and the use of CGE analysis to address key trade policy issues. Marijke Kuiper For outstanding leadership in the development and use of the MAGNET model in the context of many different applications. Jose Manuel Rueda-Cantuche For his contributions as the project leader and being a main contributor from the JRC to the EU-GTAP project, which was an unprecedented effort in data collection and processing that involved delivering a consistent set of EU-28 IO tables for the GTAP Data Base, and enabled the development of a new conversion method for the whole EU that guaranteed full consistency of EU data supplied to GTAP with the new European statistical standards. Nelson Villoria For outstanding contributions to the development of Geospatial Open Source Hosting of Agriculture, Resource and Environmental Data (GEOSHARE) as well as his leadership in GTAP Short Courses and contributions to the broader field of international trade and climate change analysis. The Board also approved to name the following into the GTAP Hall of Fame: Mary Burfisher For her outstanding development, leadership, and support of GTAP educational and mentoring programs.

Alan A. Powell Award
Each year at the GTAP Advisory Board meeting we present an award to one of the members of the Board in recognition of outstanding service. This award is in honor of one of the Founding Members of the Advisory Board, and the intellectual grandfather of GTAP - Alan A. Powell. The 2018 recipient of the Alan A. Powell Award is Dr. David Laborde, Senior Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade and Institutions Division and the Theme Leader on Macroeconomics and Trade for the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). David Laborde first came to our attention as a doctoral student at the University of Pau, mentored by Antoine Bouët, a GTAP stalwart. He immediately made an impact on those who connected with him. He joined the research staff of the Centre d'Études Prospectives et d'Informations Internationales (CEPII)-the renowned Paris-based economic think tank and GTAP Board member- and was a vital cog in the team that developed the MAcMap database that became the source for tariffs for the GTAP Data Base. At CEPII, David also mastered the MIRAGE global CGE model, introducing substantial model improvements while working on relevant policy issues. He moved to IFPRI in 2007 and has worked on a wide range of critical policy issues-international trade, biofuels, poverty, food security-in a wide variety of contexts-country, regional and global. He is also devoted to capacity building, particularly in developing countries. David has been a key contributor to the GTAP Data Base, for example providing country supply and use tables and the aforementioned MAcMap data. He also developed the TASTE database, that provides HS-level analysis of trade policy regimes. Beyond his important contributions to the GTAP Data Base, we treasure David’s presence on the GTAP Advisory Board and the extent of his engagement with the Center. Thank you, David, for your important contributions to GTAP!

Alan A. Powell Award
