"The Pacific Five Free Trade Area: Impacts on Agriculture in New Zealand"
by Ballingall, John

Abstract
Recent attention has been paid to the possible expansion of the CER agreement between New Zealand and Australia. One possibility for an expanded CER is the creation of the Pacific Five, a free trade arrangement between New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Chile, and the United States. This study provides a general equilibrium analysis of the creation of the Pacific Five, focusing on the implications for New Zealand’s agricultural sectors. The results show that while some of these sectors might benefit, New Zealand should be careful when considering its future trade policy direction.
