"Trade with China and the Impact on Relative Wages in Industrial Economies"
by Mirza, Tasneem, Badri Narayanan and Nico van Leeuwen

Abstract
The objective of this paper is to study the impacts of growth of China as a giant exporter on relative wages in industrialized nations. Rapid liberalization of Chinese markets has led to large expansions of manufacturing trade largely in the late 1990s and in the new millennium. We examine the impacts of China’s expansion on the stagnant growth in real wages and rising skill premium in the US in the new millennium. We utilize special data that disaggregates workers by occupations to identify gainers and losers among labor with different skill sets working in industrial economies.
