"Integrating India into global production networks through RTAs and productivity gains: The case of the Auto-Parts Industry"
by Sen, Rahul and Badri Narayanan

Abstract
This paper undertakes an applied general equilibrium analysis of a 21 region, 7 sector model by utilizing the GTAP 8 database based on 2007 data to simulate the impact of tariff reduction in auto-parts for India’s currently implemented Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs). For this purpose, detailed HS-6 level trade and protection data for auto-parts, coresponding to disaggregation of HS-4-digit group 8708 (Parts and Accessories of motor vehicles) are utilized.

An additional scenario of a productivity improvement, along with the FTA is also explored. In order to do this, we carry out an empirical exercise involving the estimation of productivity in India since 1999 using the data from Annual Survey of Industries.
