"GTAP 8 Data Base Documentation - Chapter 7.L: Venezuela" by Ferrer, Roberto, Jorge Hernandez and Agustin Velazquez Abstract This note documents the process by which the Venezuelan Input-Output Table (VIOT) was put together for the purpose of updating the database available to the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP). The previous Venezuelan table available to GTAP was a 1986 database assembled by members of the now extinct CORDIPLAN.2 The new table built for the year 1997 is the second of such efforts. The Central Bank of Venezuela (CBV) as the leading institution in charge of compiling economic statistics in Venezuela, has assumed this task as its own. More specifically, this is an initiative of the Bureau of Economic Research (of the Vice-presidency of Studies) supported by the Macroeconomic Accounts Division (of the Statistical Office), both at CBV. This document is divided in five sections. The next section gives reference information and a description of the source tables that constitute the basis of this update. Section three describes the different treatments that were applied to the source tables in order to comply with GTAP requirements. Section four comments on the sectoral classification of the data sources and its mapping to the GTAP classification. Finally, we end with some remarks in section five. |
