"Impacts of electric supply shortage in Japan simulated by the GTAP model, the GTAP-E model and the revised GTAP-E model" by Higashi, Akiko Abstract The review of energy policy in order to face with the risk of electric supply shortage becomes one of the most important policy issues in Japan. As the magnitude of the impacts of electric supply shortage will be largely influenced by the development of energy substitution in industries, it would be better to compare simulation results based on different scenarios concerning energy substitution to evaluate the impacts of electric supply shortage. By comparing the simulation results of the GTAP model and the GTAP-E model, an extended version of the GTAP model which incorporates the energy substitution structure in the GTAP model, we can analyze the two scenarios concerning energy substitution; the scenario in which energy substitution does not occur, and the scenario that takes into consideration energy substitution. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impacts of the reduction in use of electric power caused by electric supply shortage in Japan using the GTAP model and the GTAP-E model, based on GTAP 8 Data Base. As for the GTAP-E model, the revised GTAP-E model was released in late 2012. After the comparison of the GTAP model and the GTAP-E model, this paper tries to compare the simulation results of the GTAP -E model and the revised GTAP-E model. |
