"CGE experiments based on the GTAP database and two TiVA-based databases" by Koopman, Bob, Marinos Tsigas, Zhi Wang and Xin Li Abstract During the last several years the extent of the fragmentation of production has increased. Production processes have been fragmented into several discrete activities which are widely spread within and across national borders. This increased fragmentation of production implies that gross trade measures might contribute to misunderstandings of the linkages between trade, production, and primary factor use. To help avoid these misunderstandings, researchers have recently developed trade in value-added (TiVA) measures. This presentation would discuss computable general equilibrium (CGE) effects of a particular trade policy using three global trade databases: the standard GTAP database and two databases derived from two TiVA research projects: WIOD and OECD. The general equilibrium model is a modified version of the GTAP model. International trade in the TiVA-based databases is expressed in gross value measures; additional information, however, obtained for the TiVA projects is embodied in the CGE databases. This presentation would attempt to identify the simulated results which are sensitive to the choice of database.... |
