Biography
Curriculum Vitae - Bob Koopman

Mr. Robert Koopman currently serves as Hurst Senior Professorial Lecturer in the School of International Service at American University. He previously served as the Chief Economist of the World Trade Organization, where he led the WTO's research and statistics program, served as its G20 Trade and Investment Working Group and Framework Group representative, and oversaw the coherence work with other international organizations such as the IMF and World Bank.

Prior to joining the WTO Bob served as Director of Operations and Chief Operating Officer of the United States International Trade Commission, overseeing all of the Commission's programmatic activities which ranged from research and analysis to maintaining the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Bob also served as Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee.

From 1999 to 2012 Mr. Koopman also served as the Chief Economist of the United States International Trade Commission, and in that role provided analysis for ITC investigations and reports, and support the Commission in its role as adviser to Congress and the President on international trade matters.

Robert Koopman spent 15 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). He most recently served as Deputy Administrator for Economic and Community Systems in the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. Prior to that position, he was Deputy Director of the Commercial Agriculture Division of the USDA Economic Research Service (ERS). He began his professional career at the ERS as an economist and later served as Leader of the ERS Central and Eastern Europe Section and Chief of the ERS Europe, Africa, and Middle East Branch.

Mr. Koopman holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Maine.
