"Genre, développement agricole et réformes commerciales au Niger" by Alkassoum Sangare, Saadatou Abstract We consider a dynamic computable general equilibrium model in which workers are differentiated by sex to analyze the impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Niger. The 2018 social accounting matrix reflects the structure of the economy, which is characterized by a weak secondary sector and recurring trade deficits. The results show that reducing customs tariffs would increase gender disparities among unskilled households, which could then call into question all efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In general, the negative impact extends to thenentire Nigerien economy without accompanying measures. Nevertheless, efforts to mobilize domestic taxation could correct the trends, but only in the short and medium term. It is, therefore, essential to combine other complementary measures in order to benefit from the AfCFTA. |
