Biography Dr. Maria del Pilar Londoño-Kent, an international trade and port and transport consultant, has 30 years’ experience in institutional reform and performance assessments in port and logistics sectors. Her experience extends to a number of countries, particularly in Latin America. Maria del Pilar is also a noted authority on border crossing constraints, the subject being addressed in her dissertation “Institutional Arrangements that Affect Free Trade Agreements, Economic Rationality Versus Interest Groups”, where she assessed the performance of NAFTA border crossings and the impact of border frictions on national economies. Her dissertation was published by the Erasmus Research Institute of Management. More recently, she has been engaged by the World Bank in a number of freight studies, particularly on constraints to trucking industry performance. Formerly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute of International Trade, and the national shipping line (Flota Mercante Gran Colombiana) in Colombia, Maria del Pilar also led trade promotion efforts for Colombian companies seeking export opportunities. She has testified before government bodies on trade constraints, most recently to the U.S. International Trade Commission on the subject of the “Economic Effects of Significant U.S. Import Restraints -- Seventh Update Special Topic: Global Supply Chains” and has served as guest speaker, most recently at the Federal Reserve Bank on the occasion of the celebration NAFTA’s 20-year anniversary. Maria del Pilar has also served as guest lecturer on institutional barriers to freight movements at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. Author of several scholarly articles on the subject of freight logistics and port performance, Maria del Pilar received her Ph.D. in International Trade and Transportation Economics from Erasmus University, Holland and a Master of Arts in Management Studies degree from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. She received her BA in Economics from Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia. Married to Dr. Paul E. Kent and mother of Marie-Claire Rosenkranz Kent, Dr. Londoño-Kent is an active member of Ignatian spirituality programs in Colombia and Washington, D.C.’s Holy Trinity Church, a Jesuit sponsored parish. She is also a member of the Holy Trinity Iconographers Guild. |
