Biography
Rob Vos is Director of Development Policy and Analysis and chief economist of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations. At the UN he is responsible, among other things, for the United Nation's World Economic Situation and Prospects, global economic forecasting, and the LINK global modeling system. He also coordinates the development policy analysis at UN-DESA and in a joint project with UNDP and the World Bank he is coordinating a range of country studies in Latin America,the Middle East and elsewhere, using dynamic CGE models and microeconomic costing analysis to assess feasible strategies to achieve the MDGs.
Previously, he was Professor of Finance and Development at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and Professor of Development Economics at the Free University Amsterdam.
He has published widely on issues of finance and development, macroeconomic adjustment policies, trade liberalization, poverty and income distribution. His most recent, co-authored book is "Who gains from Free Trade? Export-led Growth and Poverty in Latin America", to be published in 2006 by Routledge, London.
