Biography
Curriculum Vitae - Elena Ianchovichina

Elena Ianchovichina is a lead economist and the deputy chief economist for Latin America and the Caribbean Region of the World Bank. Prior to that she was lead economist in the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa region, where on many occasions she served as acting chief economist. Elena has also worked as a senior economist in the World Bank’s economic policy and debt department and as a young professional in the World Bank's East Asia and Pacific region and the World Bank’s research department. Prior to joining the World Bank, Elena was assistant professor in international trade at Kansas State University. An author of more than 100 publications, Elena has published her work in top development economics journals and has been cited in many academic journals as well as in leading newspapers and other media outlets. In 2008, she received Purdue University’s Apex Award for outstanding contributions to quantitative economic analysis. Ianchovichina is a native of Bulgaria and has a PhD from Purdue University.
